What does an ultrasound examination look like?

Thyroid ultrasound
An examination of the thyroid structure that assesses its size, appearance, and possible changes such as nodules.
Abdominal ultrasound
Examination of abdominal organs, including the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, and kidneys.
Breast ultrasound
Ultrasound assessment of breast tissue, especially for certain changes or as recommended by a doctor. It does not always replace mammography.

As a rule, you should come fasting for 6 to 8 hours beforehand. Exact instructions depend on the type of examination.
Is a referral required?
No. You can book a private ultrasound examination directly.
Does a breast ultrasound replace a mammogram?
Not always. These are different, often complementary diagnostic methods. The choice depends on age, findings, and individual risk.
